Aloo Matar (potato and peas curry) is a popular dish in Pakistan, made with a rich tomato-based gravy, potatoes, peas, and aromatic spices. Here's a traditional Pakistani-style recipe that's easy to make and full of flavor.
Ingredients:
- 3 medium potatoes (peeled and cubed )
- 1 cup green peas (fresh or frozen )
- 2 medium tomatoes (chopped or blended )
- 1 medium onion (finely chopped )
- 2 green chilies (chopped)
- 2 tablespoon oil or ghee
- 1 tablespoon cumin seeds
- 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
- 1 tablespoon red chili powder
- half tablespoon turmeric powder
- 1 tablespoon coriander powder
- half tablespoon garam masala
- 1 cup water (adjust as needed )
- fresh coriander leaves for garnish
- Heat oil in a pot on medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
- Add chopped onions and sauce until golden brown.
- Stir in ginger-garlic paste and sauce for a minute until fragrant.
- Add tomatoes, green chilies, salt, red chili powder, turmeric, and coriander powder. Cook until the tomatoes turn soft and the oil separates from the masala.
- Add potatoes and stir well to coat them with the masala.
- Pour water and cover the pot. Cook for 10-12 minutes until potatoes are tender.
- Add green peas and mix well. Cook for another 5 minutes.
- Sprinkle garam masala and let it simmer for 2 minutes.
- Garnish with fresh coriander and serve hot with roti, naan, or rice.
