How to Make Aloo Matar - Quick and Comforting Curry

 Aloo Matar (potato and peas curry) is a popular dish in Pakistan, made with a rich tomato-based gravy, potatoes, peas, and aromatic spices. Here's a traditional Pakistani-style recipe that's easy to make and full of flavor.


 

Ingredients:

  • 3 medium potatoes (peeled and cubed )
  • 1 cup green peas (fresh or frozen )
  • 2 medium tomatoes (chopped or blended )
  • 1 medium onion (finely chopped )
  • 2 green chilies (chopped)
  • 2 tablespoon oil or ghee
  • 1 tablespoon cumin seeds
  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tablespoon red chili powder
  • half tablespoon turmeric powder
  • 1 tablespoon coriander powder
  • half tablespoon garam masala
  • 1 cup water (adjust as needed )
  • fresh coriander leaves for garnish
Instructions:

  1. Heat oil in a pot on medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.

  2. Add chopped onions and sauce until golden brown.

  3. Stir in ginger-garlic paste and sauce for a minute until fragrant.
  4. Add tomatoes, green chilies, salt, red chili powder, turmeric, and coriander powder. Cook until the tomatoes turn soft and the oil separates from the masala.
  5. Add potatoes and stir well to coat them with the masala.
  6. Pour water and cover the pot. Cook for 10-12 minutes until potatoes are tender.
  7. Add green peas and mix well. Cook for another 5 minutes.
  8. Sprinkle garam masala and let it simmer for 2 minutes.
  9. Garnish with fresh coriander and serve hot with roti, naan, or rice.
