Zeera Aloo is a popular Pakistani dish made with boiled potatoes sauteed in cumin seed (zeera), green chilies, and simple spices. It's light, easy, and full of earthy, aromatic flavor-perfect for roti, paratha, or as a lunchbox dish.
Ingredients:
- 4 medium potatoes (boiled and cubed)
- 2 tablespoon oil or ghee
- 1 tablespoon cumin seeds (zeera)
- 1-2 green chilies (sliced or chopped)
- half tablespoon turmeric powder
- half tablespoon red chili powder (adjust to taste)
- salt to taste
- half tablespoon amchur or lemon juice (optional)
- fresh coriander, chopped (for garnish)
Step 1: Boil the potatoes and temper the spices
Peel and boil the potatoes until tender but not mushy. Cut them into medium cubes and set them aside. Heat oil or ghee in a frying pan on medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them sizzle for 10-15 seconds until aromatic. Add green chilies and sauté briefly.
Step 2: Add Spices and Potatoes
Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Stir well. Add the boiled potato cubes and mix until well coated with the spices.
Step 3: Cook and Finish
Sauté for 5-7 minutes on a medium flame, stirring occasionally until the potatoes get a slightly crisp edge. Sprinkle amchur or lemon juice for a tangy kick (optional). Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
